We Are One
Standing as One Community Against Hate
Hello Everyone, We are One!
VISION
Our goal is to combat the rise of anti-AAPI hate and racial injustice for all communities through mutual solidarity and understanding.
MISSION STATEMENT
We Are One was founded in 2020 to counter the rise of anti-AAPI hate and racial injustice in our city and nation. We seek to overcome the barriers that separate our diverse communities by creating opportunities for direct dialogue. We are a group made up of diverse communities focused on establishing an in-depth partnership among the Black, API, Latino, White, Native American, all people of mixed cultures/ethnicities communities of San Francisco. We invite all supporting and collaborating organizations to spread the word, "We Are One!"

Past Events
Get to Know Me Concert August 29, 2021
We Are One held a very special event in conjunction with Jones' "Get to Know Me" program. This dynamic live music event featured music from both the Asian-American and African-American communities. In the face of the rising tide of Anti-AAPI hate, a message of solidarity and hope was shared by religious leaders in the African-American and Asian-American communities. Members of the Chinese and Japanese American communities joined congregants of Jones Methodist to share an afternoon of great music and fellowship.
Personal Safety and Self Awareness Workshop
November 20, 2021
Come join us for a program of self-defense instruction, meditation, music, prayer and fellowship in an atmosphere of love, mutual respect and in a spirit of solidarity across racial and religious lines. The program will bring together the African-American, Japanese-American and Chinese-Amercian communities in fellowship and solidarity as we share our cultural heritage and insights on how to stay safe in the face of a rising tide of anti-AAPI hate. We hope to promote a spirit of unity and understanding between our communities of color, knowing that a threat to one is a threat to all.
Let's Be Safe
August 20, 2022
October 14, 2023
“We are One” would like to invite you and your family to join us for lunch and positive discussions on safety in our community. Due to the recent rise in violence in our country, it is more important now than ever, to talk about how to be safe whether in school, in the park or while going out. Children and teens will learn about things they can do to stay safe in an emergency and will have an opportunity to speak to San Francisco police officers. Discussion topics will be age-appropriate. This is a special event hosted by inter-faith communities in Japantown and Fillmore to promote thought-provoking conversations with our families around safety and preparedness.
International Interfaith Blessings for Hope
December 17, 2022
December 17, 2023
This will be our 2nd Annual International, Interfaith, Blessings for Hope hosted by We Are One SF. This year, our theme is With Prayer Comes Action, Keep Hope Alive. The program starts with a blessing by clergy of the different faiths serving our communities, and continues with music and speeches on various topics that will help us reflect on our lives and our hopes for the future. A break-out session allows participants to share their views and aspirations for the coming new year. The program finishes with a Japanese style curry rice meal made by award-winning chef Rev. Rodney Yano. One of the founding principles of We Are One is to bring communities together to foster one-on-one dialogue and understanding. We feel that this helps dispel harmful stereotypes that contribute to anti-AAPI and other hate crimes that plague our community. Please join us for a wonderful evening of celebrating hope, prayer and faith for continued actions.
About Our Happi Coats
Our Happi Coats represent the story of We Are One! Handmade by a Chinese American woman, Mary Anne Hiatt, she integrated the design of a Japanese Happi coat, with African patterns and colors emblazoned by a lapel inspired by the Chinese tiger. Join us with your eyes, ears, voices, hearts and spirit to say "We Are One!"
